High Stakes Poker Season 3 Episode 13

By Glenn Cole | April 11, 2007

The last show for the season, but this episode does not lack the number of tricky plays by different players, nor the big pots. Will Esfandiari take home a pot worth $250.000 with only 4 high, or will Benyamine have the guts to call him?

The only change since the last episode in the lineup is that David Williams has given up his seat to a new player in High Stakes Poker, Patrik Antonius.
Seat 1: Daniel Negreanu
Seat 2: Patrik Antonius
Seat 3: Brad Booth
Seat 4: David Benyamine
Seat 5: Antonio Esfandiari
Seat 6: Phil Ivey
Seat 7: John D’agostino
Seat 8: Brian Townsend

Benyamine has for some time now been struggling with Antonio Esfandiari to the left of him, saying that Esfandiari always raises him, and makes a move on him. Well, Esfandiari still does it, and on the first hand of this episode he will play back at him, making a huge pot when no one of the two players holds a really strong hand. Raise re-raise re-re-raise and Benyamine ends up as the winner, with a weak two pair. I really believe this move by Esfandiari would have worked if he wouldn’t have made so many plays versus Benyamine before. And other way around, I think Benyamine felt that he has to make this move, just because if he would let it go once more, Esfandiari wouldn’t stop making moves at him. Almost $250.000 in the pot and the winner is two pair against Esfandiari’s 4 high…

But Esfandiari’s playing style is encourage the other players to play versus him. In a hand some minutes later he finds KK in the pocket and just calls. D’agostino picks up pocket tens and raises the pot. Esfandiari don’t slow play this, and will re raises to a total of $18.000. Apparently D’agostino don’t believe him, he has just seen Esfandiari making a huge move for more money involved than this. So D’agostino re-raises to a total of $48.000. Nice spot for Esfandiari and it will not take long before he pushes all in, making the pot worth $170.000 before a call by D’agostino. But he will wisely fold his tens and Esfandiari is taking back some money he just lost.

About half way in the episode, a large pot is evolving, between the two Canadians; Brad Booth and Daniel Negreanu. Both make a flush on the river, Negreanu a 4 high and Booth a 8 high. Before the river the pot was up in a total of $136.000 and with the river Negreanu bets $55.000 and apparently Booth is afraid of a higher flush so he just makes the call, taking home the nice sized pot of almost $250.000. Since Booth sat down with a million dollar I have not seen Booth lost a big pot yet, which means he has to play with a lot more then a million, my best guess would be around 1.3 million dollars. If that’s the case he would be a big winner in this season of High Stakes Poker.

One of the biggest looser of this season has to be Sam Farha, playing way too loose in my opinion. And the beneficiary of his “charity play” was mostly Eli Elezra at the beginning of the season. Well, this season is over, but hopefully it will soon come a season 4 with even more money and good poker.

Stay tuned!

I am very surprised that there are so few cash players. The tournament players don’t have the nerves to play for real money.

I see the difference from playing in tournaments to playing in real cash games.

Some of the big time tournament players really surprised me. All talk and no action.
