High Stakes Poker Season 3 Episode 2

By Glenn Cole | January 23, 2007

This week’s episode starts with Negreanu holding quad sevens, and after that hand Doyle Brunson is getting tricky with his AA back to back in the pocket.

No one has given up their seat yet from last show, so the players are:
Seat 1: Mike Matusow
Seat 2: Jamie Gold
Seat 3: Daniel Alaei
Seat 4: Shahram “Shawn” Sheikhan
Seat 5: Victor Ramdin
Seat 6: Daniel Negreanu
Seat 7: William Chen
Seat 8: Doyle Brunson

It all starts the same way like the last show, big pot and a big unsuccessful bluff. And again, one of the new comers loosing some money on a rather poor play. This time it is Victor Ramdin who raises Daniel Negreanu when Daniel feels rather secure with his quads sevens. And after this hand, Doyle Brunson catches AA in two straight hands. And as well here, as in the last show, he punishes Jamie in both pots. And in my opinion, he plays both hands flawless. I Can’t see how he could get more money from Gold in both hands. On first hand Gold tries to bluff his way out and gets caught. In the second hand Doyle lets Gold catch a hand, before getting aggressive. Impressive play Mr. Brunson, very impressive. It is fun to see that it seems that Brunson is like a fine wine, getting better for every year.

This show, as well as the one before, is having like a million multi way pots. Like seven people limping in in every pot. Well, let’s say something about the highlight of this episode; Gabe Kaplan trades his place with Daniel Negreanu at the table. This means that Kaplan plays at the table, for $100.00 and Daniel Negreanu takes place up in the booth. And I have to say, Kaplan does a better work at the poker table than Daniel Negreanu does in the booth.

Any way, I liked the idea, don’t know it this was for real or not, but quite hilarious to listen to Negreanu instead of Kaplan. But, Negreanu has not got the routine in the booth as Kaplan; sometimes he talks so much that you can’t hear the players at the table. BUT, it was really fun to hear Negreanu’s point of view in some hands. About Gabe Kaplan at the table; his entrance makes everyone at the table very open and starts to talk a lot. It seems like a bunch of friends playing some poker on a Friday night. And his play is quite successful, though he doesn’t play that many hands; he can be very aggressive with the one’s he plays. You will only see two hands Kaplan is involved in, and in both hands he has the worst hand but he eventually wins both of them. Well, let’s see how long Kaplan will last, but for now on, he has gain some money and he will still play in episode 3 I assume.
